Erisikhthon was of the Gigantes born to Gaia. The importance of Eriskhthon is unknown but in the depictions there are of him, he is always seen fighting Demeter she is holding him at bay with a torch in one hand (which had long since become one of her attributes) holding him at bay either a spear or a sword which is no doubt the Khrysaor (golden sword described in her Homeric epithet Khrysaoros - the Lady of the Golden Sword). There is however a second century BC Gigantomachy frieze at the Pergamon Altar where Erysikthon is being fought by Demeter who is using only torches.
