Euphrates was one of the 3,000 sons of Okeanos and Tethys. He was the river-god of Assyria West-Asia (what is now modern day Turkey and Iraq). Euphrates was one of the three major rivers in the mid-east. The others being Orontes and Tigris. There are however Potamoi as far west as India (Ganges & Hydaspes).
