The Lightning Bolts were the signature weapon and symbol of Zeus.

Myth

Creation

During the Titanomachy, after the Cyclops were released, the Cyclops were so grateful to the gods, they made gifts for them. Zeus received a bucket which would never run out of Lightning Bolts. Later, it was imbued with the power of the sky. The lightning bolt is the Symbol of Power of Zeus. Zeus and Zeus alone uses a Thunderbolt (unlike the Trident which is used not only by Poseidon, Amphitrite and Triton).

Creation

The first of the Thunderbolts were created by the Elder Cyclops.

Later Use

While Typhon and Zeus are doing battle, Zeus throws a lightning bolt at Typhon which threw him to a mountain. Zeus, quickly regaining strength, tossed one hundred Lightning Bolts at Typhon, killing him. He then threw his remains into Tartatus.

Power and Abilities

The Bolts themselves were charged with electricity, and would have power over the skies and storms.

Trivia

  • Sometimes, the bolts are thought to have been stored in a sack or a bucket.
