Merope daughter of Oinopion
Meropê (Μερόπη) was the daughter of King Oenopion and Helike. She was a mortal princess who was loved by the hunter Orion. Oenopion blinded Orion after he took advantage of Merope. Hephaestus took pity on the blinded Orion, and gave him his servant Cedalion as a guide. Orion was cured of his blindness, and returned to Chios to seek revenge against Oenopion. However, Oenopion was hidden away in the earth, so Orion instead went to Crete.
