Penelope was the wife of Odysseus and mother of Telemachus who throughout the absence of her husband Odysseus remained chaste and faithful despite the constant advances of suitors who refused to leave the dwelling of Odysseus.


Penelope was the daughter of Ikarios. Her mother is never mentioned. Ikarios is also never mentioned as much.

Odysseus (husband) In the Odyssey, Odysseus was missing for about two decades. What happened to his wife? Penelope had many lovers (also known as suitors) who wanted her hand in marriage. If you read the Odyssey (book on Odysseus and his journeys) then you'll see that Odysseus comes home, and kills all the suitors.
