Helmsman of the Argonauts: Tiphys

Tiphys (Τῖφυς) was the son of Hagnias or Phorbas and Hyrmine. Tiphys one of the Argonauts. As an Argonaut, Tiphys was the helmsman of the Argo. According to legend, rather than a compass, the stars were his guide. He died of a mysterious illness, although according to some sources, he died of a snakebite. After his death, Ankaeus piloted Argo.
