Turtle Dove

The Turtle-Dove is a bird said to be sacred to Demeter and Aphrodite. Since the turtle dove was considered a bird of love, doves were said to draw Aphrodite's heavenly chariot. The Syrian Aphrodite Ashtarte was said to have been hatched from an egg nursed by doves.
