Xanthos (whose name means "Bay") was one of two horses immortal horses who were sons of Boreas god of the north wind.  He and his brother Podarkês were given to the Athenian king Erekhtheus as the bridal price for his daughter Oreithyia.  Together Xanthos and Podarkes are known as Hippoi Erekhtheioi (Horses of Erektheus).
